Met up with the great Sir John Whitmore a while back and we were talking over education matters. He told me about a little exercise he does with his students from time to time. He asks them, 'How many of you were taught algebra at school? And every hand goes up. He then asks, 'How many of you were taught emotional intelligence at school?’ No hands go up. He then asks, 'How many have used algebra in your lives after school?'....you get the point!
And now if you were to ask - 'Yes, but how would we go about teaching emotional intelligence in school?’. Visit my website www.lifeskillshandbooks.com. If schools or teachers took a look at this...it would be a start...and the new PHSE framework for schools in England seems to have some scope, depending on how it’s delivered.
